Rhonda Akeson
2004 Recipient of American Dental Hygienists' Association Distinguished Service Award

Rhonda Akeson RDH, BS was awarded the prestigious Distinguished Service Award at ADHA annual session in Dallas, TX in June of 2004. Rhonda has been a longtime member and has been active and served in many roles. Some of those include WDHA Secretary, President-Elect, President 1988 and Immediate Past President. She has served as the editor of the official WDHA newsletter "The Bulletin" from 1995-present. Rhonda has also served as a delegate to ADHA annual session and held many offices on the component level as well.

Community service is an important part of Rhonda's professional career and she has been the project coordinator for a dental sealant program and has been actively involved in many dental health programs, clinics and career days. She has represented dental hygiene by serving as a member of the committee to fluoridate the city water supply, has been a member of the advisory committee at the technical college, and also served on a mission trip to Bolivia.

Rhonda continues to share her professional vision by serving as the Student Dental Hygiene Association advisor for her local dental hygiene program. It is here that she can mentor the future of dental hygiene.

Outstanding Service to Dental Hygiene Award

WDHA has many members who work hard throughout the year to advance the profession of dental hygiene. Each year one member is recognized for their outstanding efforts. In 1994 the WDHA outstanding service award was changed to the Carol B. Benson Outstanding Service award to honor a long standing member who exemplified the meaning of this award. Recipients of this award have participated in component, constituent and national association activities, they also show qualities that are reflective of a good model for the dental hygiene profession, and exhibit outstanding character and professionalism. In 2003 Tammy L. Filipiak RDH, BS was recognized for her outstanding service to the dental hygiene profession in Wisconsin. She has been a continuous member in ADHA/WDHA since graduation from Northcentral Technical College in 1987. She has held many offices within the component and state associations and was WDHA President in 2001-02. She continues her service to WDHA by now serving as the Association Marketing Manager.
